Project notes

Privacy & data handling

How the food comparison tool handles browser calculations, comparison URLs and external services.

What this version does in your browser

The comparison calculator runs in your browser using a bundled food dataset. Searching, selecting foods and changing weights do not submit a form to Veggie Versus. The site does not set application cookies, use local storage, load analytics scripts or load advertising scripts in this version.

Your selected foods and weights are placed in the comparison page’s URL so you can copy a reproducible link. Those values can appear in browser history and will be visible to anyone you share the link with. Do not use the URL to store sensitive information. CSV exports are created locally in your browser.

Hosting and network requests

Your browser requests pages, styles and scripts from the site’s host. The hosting provider can receive technical request information such as an IP address, browser information and requested URL. Browser calculations being local does not mean that hosting logs do not exist.

This page describes the application code, not a promise about retention settings controlled in the owner’s hosting account. The project does not ask visitors to create an account or enter health information.

External links and feedback

USDA source links open USDA pages. The source repository and feedback links open GitHub. Those services handle your visit under their own privacy policies. GitHub issue reports are public; avoid including personal or sensitive information.

Advertising

The AdSense publisher identification is retained as metadata, but no Google advertising script runs in this version. If advertising or analytics is introduced, this page needs to describe the actual services and choices available at that time.

Questions about this page
